Lumen exists because watching together changes what a film can be.
We are a one-screen independent cinema, archive and learning space built around a simple idea: films deserve time, context and an audience.
Lumen opened in 1998 inside a former print works. The room has changed, the projector has changed, and the city beyond our doors has changed. The commitment has not.
Our programme moves between first-run independent releases, artist moving image, repertory seasons and prints from our study collection. We pay artists for introductions and conversations. We keep ticket prices accessible. We publish what we learn.

We are sustained by ticket income, memberships, trusts and individual supporters. Every contribution protects the space required for adventurous film culture.
